South African Broadcasting Corporation Gets News Broadcast Rights for NBA

Through SABC Sports, the South African Broadcasting Corporation [SABC] announces multi-year broadcasting right for the National Basketball Association [NBA].

As part of the agreement, SABC Sport will air over 35 games throughout the season, including the Christmas Day game, Conference finals, NBA All-star Saturday Night, The finals, etc., on SABC 1 and Open view platforms.

More so, SABC will take charge of hosting a weekly magazine show known as NBA Action, which will cover the league’s news and highlights as a form of engagement to the audience.

During the 75th Anniversary inaugural live broadcast, the Washington Wizard will host the Boston Celtics on Saturday 30 October at 23:00 SAST. The first live broadcast will tip off with a pre-game live studio presentation at 22:30.

Furthermore, due to the time difference between South Africa and the United States, the live or delayed broadcast will start between 20h00 and midnight same Saturday on SABC 1 and the Sports Channel.

SABC Sport general manager, Mr. Gary Rathbone, added that SABC sports are incredibly thrilled to include the world’s most exciting and respected leagues in its live sports offering.

The SABC sports will offer what they promise because they have noticed a particular audience that loves basketball sport in Mzansi.

The CEO of NBA Africa, Victor Williams, is thrilled to partner with SABC, beginning with our milestone 75th Anniversary season. He furthered his statement by saying that they look forward to bringing the excitement of the NBA to more of our passionate fans in South Africa through the partnership.

And it would be a part of their continued commitment of making basketball more accessible across the continent,” he concluded.
