The Federal Ministry of Youth and Sports Development demands an immediate termination of the caretaker committee for the Nigeria Basketball Federation [NBBF], led by Musa Kida.
In a letter containing the directives, the sports ministry thanked Kida and Prof. Florence Adeyanju for their impact on baseball development in Nigeria.
The letter bears the signature of the secretary-general of NBBF, Afolabi Oluwayemi Olabisi, which she addresses to the duo.
It reads, “As the Nigerian Basketball Federation prepares for its elective congress, I’m informing you according to the directive about the dissolution of the federation’s caretaker committee with immediate effect.”
Dissolution of the committee resulted from Kida’s disregarded attitude towards an unsigned press statement credited to the permanent secretary of the federal minister of youth and sports development.
The committee’s dissolution directive comes not quite long after the indefinite postponement of the NBBF election.
Nonetheless, Kida’s reaction insists that the election go on as planned, adding that the ministry exercised an arbitrary use of the power, thus its suspension.
From the statement of the caretaker committee’s leader, he said the supposed postponement is an illegal and direct unlawful use of the power of the NBBF Congress as stated in the 2019 NBBF statutes.
Kida further described the ministry’s decision as repugnant to natural justice, equity, good conscience with an emphasis that the sports ministry and the Nigeria Olympics Committee have on numerous occasions confirmed the existence of a valid constitution.
