This year 2021, is for Wizkid. Wizkid was born in Nigeria on the 16th of July, 1990, Ayodeji Ibrahim Balogun.
Wizkid, popularly called “Star Boy,” started his career in music when he was 11 years old. However, after the release of ‘Superstar’ in 2011, he grew in popularity till present.
Another music superstar, Temilade Openiyi, with the nickname ‘Tems,’ was born in Lagos, Nigeria, on the 11th of June 1995. For some years now, Tems has been a popular name in the Nigerian music industry.
She released her first album, ‘Mr. Rebel’ in 2018 and won the Most Played Alternative Song prize at the 2021 Net Honors Award for ‘Damages.’
On Thursday, 21st of October, 2021, the organizers of the MTV EMAs announced on Twitter, declaring the nominations for this year’s awards.
In the ‘Best African Act’ category, Wizkid and Tems are two Nigerian musicians on the nomination list. Other nominees in the award category are Diamond Platnumz, Focalistic, and Amaarae.
As voting is ongoing, MTV EMAs will announce the winners, and nominees for the 2021 MTV Europe Music Award winners on Sunday, 14th of November, 2021, in Papp László Budapest Sportaréna, Hungary.
MTV Channels will make a live broadcast of the event across 180 countries.
Both Wizkid and Tems received their nominations for ‘Essence’ – a hit song they have collaborated on. The hit song was one of the songs in the fourth studio album by Wizkid, released in October 2020.
In the top 100 songs on the billboard, Essence was the 16th. Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA) has already given them a gold certificate for the beautiful piece.
Of all the nominations in this year’s MTV Europe Music Award, Justin Bieber has the top nominations of eight. Lil Nash X and Doja Cat both have six nominations too.
